1915 PM1 Ty Cobb Ornate Pinback – EX-MT+ Condition & One of the Finest In The Hobby!

Presented here is one of the finest 1915 PM1 Ty Cobb pinback on the planet! The 1915 PM1 pins are among the most desirable pins in the hobby via their extremely ornate bronze colored oval borders and real oval photos. Measuring approximately 1-1/8" x 1-1/4", the current 28-subject checklist is still considered incomplete, with the most historic find being an extraordinary pin of the incomparable Babe Ruth. While the specific manufacturer and method of distribution remains a perplexing conundrum among hobbyists, their scarcity and esteemed number of Cooperstown Inductees have earned them a solidified niche in the hearts of advanced pinback enthusiasts.

Before the Babe Ruth pin surfaced, the set's most coveted and valuable subject was the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb, with only a handful of these "Georgia Peach" pinbacks offered at public auctions. A 1936 charter member of baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame, Cobb still retains our National Pastime's highest lifetime batting average with his .366 mark the result of 4,189 safeties. Incredible as it may seem, he claimed 12 batting titles in a 13-year span, posting 9 consecutive titles from 1907 thru 1915! He batted over .400 three times, and is widely considered the fiercest competitor to ever grace a baseball diamond. His breathtaking PM1 pin offered here has miraculously managed to escape the image fading and border oxidation that plagues virtually all PM1 pins.

The iconic Cobb wide-batting stance illustration appears to be synonymous with an original Charles Conlon photo, and is very similar to his iconic M110 Sporting Life Cabinet image. Miraculously, it has managed to elude any fading whatsoever, stubbornly defying "father time" over the past 102 years, with the bold white "COBB" text likewise depicting most of its original factory issued quality. Equally amazing is the ornate metallic leaf-styled border that atypically portrays minimal oxidation/wear, with a majority of its original bronze-like hues intact. The final compliment is the verso's secure pin clasp and relatively clean metallic surface that has been modestly compromised by only a few diminutive areas of soiling and/or rust. Indeed, after scouring this remarkable offering, even the most meticulous pinback collector would agree that it resides as one of the finest preserved PM1 Cobb specimens extant and worth of the hobby's highest accolades!
