(LOT 14)
1938 Lou Gehrig and Eleanor Gehrig Signed Photograph PSA/DNA 9 MINT

LOU & ELEANOR!!!...
It wasn't too often or apropos to catch Lou Gehrig in a ten-gallon hat, but in 1938, it was darn near commonplace. Just as the motion picture industry had come for Babe Ruth before him, the Iron Horse was one in a list of ballplayers to be enticed by the lights of Hollywood. The 1938 film Rawhide starred the novice actor Lou Gehrig playing himself as a ballplayer returning to a life on a ranch only to get roped into a battle between ranchers and crooks. Offered here is an approx. 6-5/8" x 9" photograph of Lou singing to his beloved wife Eleanor in 1938. Still in costume for the film in a wonderful candid moment, Lou, wearing that ten-gallon lid, is belting one out as Eleanor sits admiringly at the piano. This fantastic Wide World Photos photograph has been signed by Gehrig across the sheet music on the piano, which PSA has graded 9 MINT. The back displays a WWP stamping and a pencil notation "Lou Gehrig & Mrs. Gehrig – 3/8/1938" at the upper edge. A remnant of the previous caption is also still affixed to the back. This is a delightful photo of Lou and Eleanor enjoying a playful moment together prior to both of their lives being turned upside down by the debilitating disease that would end his consecutive games streak and ultimately his life.
