1940 Babe Ruth and Christy Walsh Signed New York World's Fair Academy of Sport Certificate PSA/DNA 8.5 NM-MT+

The 1939-40 New York World's Fair was held in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, NY. More than 45 million people attended the months-long fair with 65 nations, 35+ states and provinces, and more than 1,400 companies and organizations represented. One such organization, specific to the World's Fair, was the Academy of Sport, endorsed by Christy Walsh as Director of Sports, Banks McFadden as Instructor of Football, and the inimitable Babe Ruth as the Instructor of Baseball. Presented here is an official Certificate from the Academy of Sport to Norman Anderson, which features the Golden Laurel ribbon affixed to it and is signed by Babe Ruth, Banks McFadden and Christy Walsh in black fountain pen. PSA/DNA has encased this certificate with an autograph grade of 8.5 NM-MT+ for both Ruth and Walsh, The Babe's signature is virtually flawless, perhaps deserving of a much higher assessment. The approx. 9-3/4" x 7" certificate has been cut down slightly, perhaps to fit into an album, and displays an image of Ruth's 1933 Sport Kings issue at top right. Some minor creasing or wrinkling is evident at the bottom edge, but the diploma is otherwise unencumbered by obtrusive flaws. The back shows light edge soiling but is clean overall.
