Hank Gathers Signed and Inscribed "#44 Bank Man" Magazine Photo PSA/DNA Authentic

After transferring from USC his freshman year, Gathers put together a prodigious college career. The star of Loyola Marymount's iconic fast break offense, he is the last player to top NCAA Division 1 in both scoring and rebounding in the same season. After leading the Lions to two straight WCC Tournament victories in 1988 and 1989, he was touted as an NBA lottery pick amid his senior year. Tragically, this dream never came to fruition. On March 4, 1990, Gathers collapsed and died on the court during the WCC Tournament semifinal game. It was later determined that he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a chronic heart condition. However, his legacy sparked one of the most incredible Cinderella runs in NCAA Tournament history. Placed as the 11th seed, LMU proceeded to dispatch their first three opponents, including the defending champion Michigan Wolverines, en route to an Elite Eight berth. Although they fell to eventual champion UNLV, LMU's success playing in memory of their fallen teammate took the sports world by storm. There was no shortage of inspirational moments, none more so than Bo Kimble making his first free throw of each game with his left hand to honor his southpaw-shooting friend. Take home this incomparable piece of college basketball history today! PSA/DNA Authentic.
