(LOT 1593)
1971 Roberto Clemente Game Winning Home Run - Type 1 PSA Encapsulated Robert Kingsbury Photo

While Pittsburgh's Roberto Clemente is more remembered for this fielding and powerful right arm, he was a four-time National League batting champion and connected on 240 home runs during his career. In the final game of the 1972 seasons, Roberto's last regular season game, he collected his 3,000 hits to become the 11th player in history to reach the milestone. Offered is a 1971 PSA encapsulated Type 1 photo of Clemente and his teammates after hitting the game-winning home run against the Phillies on June 27th. Roberto Clemente hit 81 of his 240 home runs against left-handers including this bomb to right off Philadelphia Phillies Joe Hoerner to put the Pirates ahead on June 27, 1971. The 8" x 10" image catches Arriba returning to the dugout as Manny Sanguillén and José Pagán welcome the hero. Amazingly well kept with strong borders showing only minimal corner creasing at bottom left. The back features Robert Kingsbury studio stamping and a ballpoint notation "Roberto Clemente after hitting game winning homer in 2nd game against Phillies Sun. June 25th, 1971" though the date is erroneous as the game occurred on June 27, 1971.
