1965 Sandy Koufax World Series Game 2 - Type 1 PSA Encapsulated United Press International Photo
In 1965, Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Sandy Koufax was the best pitcher on the planet. In 1963, Sandy became the second Major League and Dodger pitcher to win both the Cy Young Award and the MVP in the same year after he went 25-5 with a miniscule 1.74 ERA and 223 Ks. The four-time All-Star also pitched his second no-hitter in 1963. In 1965, he threw his fourth and final no-hitter in a perfect game victory over the Chicago Cubs. He also led the Dodgers to the World Series for the fifth time in his career. Offered here is a 7" x 9" 1965 Original Type 1 United Press international news service photograph of Koufax after he suffered an uncharacteristic loss in Game 2 of the World Series against the Minnesota Twins. Seeing Koufax standing on the mound scratching his head was unfamiliar to his legions of fans after he struck out nine but gave up two runs for the loss. This 7" x 9" photo still carries the news caption and UPI stamping in the reverse.
