1961 Topps #586 Whitey Ford All-Star PSA 10 GEM MINT
GEM MINT FORD!!!... Presented here is one of the Chairman of the Board's most miraculous rare for the grade cards, a PSA 10 GEM MINT 1961 Topps #586 All-Star subject that joins only two other PSA examples at the perfect 10 level! Indeed, PSA has encapsulated roughly 1,300+ specimens of this high number dandy, with only three copies managing to achieve the highest possible assessment. Interestingly enough, the 1961 campaign would see the crafty Ford not only win 25 games to claim his only Cy Young Award, but in Game 4 of the Fall Classic against the Reds at Crosley Field, Ford would toss five shutout innings to eclipse the incomparable Babe Ruth's World Series record of 29-2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
The HOF southpaw would eventually extend his streak to 33-2/3 innings the following season, ultimately ending his career with 236 games to the tune of an unfathomable .690 winning percentage and 2.73 ERA. This remarkable offering portrays a breathtaking Ford pitching pose in the center of the classic Sporting News periodical, with crystal-clear clarity, blisteringly sharp corner tips, immaculate surfaces and near-perfect centering all joining forces to create a perfect masterpiece while justifying the pinnacle grade!
