1964 Mickey Mantle PSA Type 1 Encapsulated UPI 8" x 10" Photo – Mantle's Record-Breaking 16th World Series Home Run! - Includes PSA 9 MINT 1965 Topps #134 Mantle's Clutch HR (Commemorating That Very Same Home Run)

"Now here comes Mantle, he's grounded to short, he's walked, he's doubled to right…facing 38-year-old Barney Schultz…the big Yankee crowd now roaring for some action. There's a high-drive, hit to deep right, and forget about it, it is gone, the ballgame's over…" - Legendary announcer Curt Gowdy's Iconic "Call" of Mantle's Record-Breaking 16th World Series Home Run

The 1964 Fall Classic would pit the mighty NY Yankees against the St. Louis Cardinals. In Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, with the score tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, the immortal Mickey Mantle would be the leadoff hitter against the Cardinals' knuckleball relief specialist, 38-year-old Barney Schultz. Amazingly, Mantle leaned over to the on-deck hitter Elston Howard and instructed him to go back to the dugout because he was going to end this game with a home run. Sure enough, the prophetic Mick blasted Schultz's first pitch, a flat knuckleball, deep into the Yankee Stadium grandstands for a walk-off homer. This historic round-tripper was Mantle's 16th World Series homer, eclipsing Babe Ruth's previous record of 15 dingers. Presented here is a PSA Type 1 photo representing this momentous event, with Mantle connecting on Schultz's first pitch for his record-breaking clout that would send the Redbirds packing this October 10, 1964 afternoon.

You can literally see Mickey's grimacing face as he applies all of his might into this game-ending swing. Measuring 8" x 10", the brilliantly contrasted and well-centered image has eluded any obtrusive flaws, with the only notable imperfections being a lower left corner chip, some faint corner wrinkles, and what appears to be a few white print marks from the original negative (one of which is directly above his batting helmet). The verso includes the critical UPI credit stamp as well as a detailed caption outlining this historic moment. As an added feature, also included is a PSA 9 MINT 1964 Topps #134 Mantle's Clutch HR subject issued to likewise represent the Mick's game-winning homer (inadvertently picturing Mantle batting against Bob Gibson, not Barbey Schultz). Two outstanding heirlooms issued to commemorate this landmark World Series Commerce Comet dinger, they conjure up vivid memories of one of the most significant home runs in baseball history!

*NOTE: This Type 1 photo is not the exact image pictured on the accompanying PSA 9 MINT 1965 Topps card. While the card likewise commemorates Mantle's record-breaking 16th World Series homer, it portrays a different image.
