(LOT 199)
1915 E106 American Caramel Co. Honus Wagner Batting SGC 3 VG – Only One SGC Example Graded Higher!

ELUSIVE CARAMEL WAGNER!!! An extremely obscure Honus Wagner issue is his E106 American Caramel Batting subject, originating from a 48-card set regionally distributed in York, PA. Due to their glossy-coated obverse surfaces, these cards were very susceptible to heavy creasing and/or cracking, resulting in most examples revealing low grades. This stellar SGC 3 VG E106 Batting keepsake of the immortal Wagner joins four other SGC copies at this seldom-surfacing plateau, with only one SGC specimen graded higher! Its condition sensitivity is justified by PSA only listing two higher examples, with this classic batting pose likewise affixed to other pre-1920 noteworthy cards such as E90-1, E92, E101, E102, T216, D303, etc. Incredibly, the glossy surface has eluded any glaring creases, with the bold crimson red background effectively emanating the Flying Dutchman's well-centered illustration to a world-class level. Even corner wear is consistent with the scarce assessment, and the American Caramel Co. ad back exhibits some negligible toning. Eclectic Honus candy cards continue to soar in value, with the superb eye appeal of this rare for the grade classic Wagner meriting its superior accolades!
