1956 US vs. NY All-Star Program Signed by Ford, Mantle and Rocky Marciano JSA LOA
SANDLOT RECEPTION!!! Beginning in 1946, the annual Hearst "Sandlot" Classic pitted young high school and AAU All-Stars against New York State All-Stars. The Hearst Classic was played at the Polo Grounds and eventually at Yankee Stadium after 1958. Media magnate William Randolph Hearst welcomed All-Stars from coast to coast and treated them to the time of their teenage lives, escorting them on boat rides around Manhattan, Broadway shows and receptions celebrating their inclusion in the prestigious event.

Over 20 years, the event produced numerous Major League ballplayers, including Dick Groat, Bill Skowron, Ron Fairly (included here), Billy Loes and Al Kaline. But the game was renowned, even among Major Leaguers, who assisted in promoting the game with former players like Rabbit Maranville (manager of NY), Al Simmons (also NY mgr.), Ray Schalk, Oscar Vitt, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Gomez and even the great Babe Ruth. Offered here is a 1956 11th Annual Hearst Classic program signed by Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford and Rocky Marciano in blue ballpoint. The program remains in good condition and the signatures appear in 8-9 strength. Notably, Mickey Mantle's signature appears to be nearly rookie-era in style, as his autograph appears to be evolving into his later, more garish signature.
