(LOT 110)
1958 Swedish Rekord Journal Soccer Pele Rookie Hand-Cut PSA 8 NM-MT

PELE ROOKIE!!! Along with the likes of Ruth, Ali, Thorpe and Jordan, no discussion of the greatest all-time athletes could possibly exclude the immortal Pele, who in 1999 was named the Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee. The undisputed greatest soccer player of all time, his lifetime 1,279 goals in 1,363 games (including friendlies) still stands as a Guinness World Record. That said, presented here is one of Pele's revered rookie cards, a beautiful PSA 8 NM-MT hand-cut example of his highly coveted 1958 Swedish Rekord Journal Soccer subject, issued only two years after Pele signed his first professional contract at the tender age of 15.

Pele's World Cup debut took place on June 15, 1958, when the 17-year-old budding star played in the third match of the first round against the USSR in Stockholm, Sweden. Fourteen days later, Pele became the youngest player to ever play in a World Cup final, scoring two goals in Brazil's 5-2 victory over the host Sweden. The original card also included Manoel Francisco Santos (on the left side), who has been manually cut from this breathtaking portrayal of the iconic Pele, whose unequivocal place in world sports compares or exceeds virtually all of his athletic peers!
