1956 Topps #135 Mickey Mantle Gray Back PSA 7 NM
MICK IN '56!!! In 1955, Yogi Berra won the American League with one of the more consistent seasons as he did not lead the league in a single offensive category but lingered among the league's best in all. An argument could have been made for Mickey Mantle that year, as he led the AL in home runs (37), walks (113), OBP (.431) and slugging (.611), and he finished 5th! That could not be said for 1956, as the Mick ran away with the MVP as he captured the elusive Triple Crown and led the AL in runs (132), HRs (52), RBIs (130), batting average (353), and slugging (.705). Despite the unfortunate 1955 World Series loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Yankees nearly doubled Mantle's salary and he soon earned every penny of that $33,000. Mickey's career year in '56 led to his first of three AL MVP awards, his second All-Star Game home run and his fourth World Series victory, in which he hit three of his record 18 career WS home runs. Offered here is the 1956 Topps #135 Mickey Mantle graded 7 NM by PSA. This beautiful high-grade Mantle for that banner year is spectacularly attractive. Fantastic centering, brilliant imagery, clean surfaces and superior borders make this one to consider. The Mick in '56 is on all collectors' lists, and this high-grade issue deserves serious attention!
