A landmark event to say the least, June 12, 1939 will forever mark the day when baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY first opened its doors to the general public, with this grand celebration directly coinciding with the commemoration of our national pastime's centennial. Twenty-six Hall of Famers were honored that day, with this inaugural festivity held at Doubleday Field. Baseball's greatest stars and executives were also in attendance, and the centennial celebration was related to the then-assumed 100-year anniversary of Abner Doubleday formalizing the official rules of baseball. As a grand keepsake from this historic event, presented here is a June 12, 1939 Baseball Centennial First Day Cover that has been signed by the immortal Babe Ruth, with his hallowed script graded a PSA 8.
