(LOT 53)
1928 Fro-Joy #6 "Ruth is a Crack Fielder!" PSA 5 EX – POP 2!

RUTH IN THE FIELD!!! Joined by only a single other PSA 5 example, this highly coveted 1928 Fro-Joy #6 "Ruth is a Crack Fielder!" offering has only been bested by five PSA copies! While there are a myriad of Ruth cardboard issues portraying the Babe in an obscure batting pose, seldom does any card reveal a rare Bambino fielding image. The fascinating pose is accompanied by a caption stating: The Big Leagues cannot boast a surer fielder than the Home Run King. The photograph shows him scooping up a liner preparatory to a double play that retired the opposing team and put the game on ice for the World Champions. Indeed, the immortal Sultan of Swat could do it all, and his mighty batting ability was certainly joined by his fine fielding prowess. Fine centering, contrast, and clarity steal the show, with even corner wear and a few minor surface abrasions to the left of Ruth's classic Yankee pinstripes preventing a higher grade. For full disclosure, it should be noted that the modest white streak on Ruth's nose is NOT a surface flaw but rather part of the original negative utilized for this image that has been solely reserved for this one and only Fro-Joy issue!
