(LOT 52)
1928 Fro-Joy #2 Babe Ruth "Look Out, Mr. Pitcher!" PSA 6 EX-MT – POP 3!

HIGH GRADE FRO-JOY!!! By 1928, Babe Ruth had established himself as baseball's greatest player, with his magical 60-homer 1927 campaign and multiple Yankees championships paving the way for his unequivocal stature. It comes as little surprise that the Fro-Joy Ice-Cream Co. issued a six-card set of the Bambino in 1928 to promote their revered brand. Arguably the set's most popular subject is the #2 "Look Out, Mr. Pitcher!" memento, presented here in an outstanding PSA 6 holder. Only two other PSA examples have managed to merit this rare assessment, with a meager two PSA specimens graded higher! What makes the #2 issue so special is the classic Babe Ruth batting pose eventually used for his 1929 Kashin and 1933 Worch Cigar issues. The crystal-clear and well-centered image reveals the Bambino bracing himself to wallop another majestic round-tripper with the Babe's favorite "Big Bertha" lumber. Other than some scattered areas of toning, no obtrusive flaws are evident, with only a diminutive area of surface wear situated in the upper right quadrant. One of Ruth's most obscure and highly coveted cards, it was issued at a time when the Bambino reigned supreme as our national pastime's true king!
