(LOT 305)
c.1950s Mickey Mantle Sitting by Yankee Stadium Dugout - Original PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Associated Press Photo – Measures Approx. 7-1/4" x 9"

1950s MICK!!!... Little did people realize that in 1951, the ultra-powerful rookie from Oklahoma named Mickey Charles Mantle would be embarking on one of the most iconic careers in our National Pastime's glorious history. While there are hundreds of Mantle cards to choose from, unfortunately for photo enthusiasts, the prospect of capturing one of his original images resides as a fractional opportunity versus the seemingly countless number of available baseball cards flooding the hobby. Offered here just happens to be one of the most imposing Mantle photos extant, a magnificent c.1950s original PSA Type 1 image with the Commerce Comet leaning against the side wall of the renowned Yankee Stadium dugout as he comfortably rests his legs on the upper steps.

Measuring approximately 7-1/4" x 9", the Mick is donning his classic Yankee pinstripes as he looks upwards towards the stratospheric heights of where he blasted so many horsehide spheres, two of which striking the Stadium's rightfield façade! Presenting itself in outstanding condition, this Associated Press memento has stubbornly defied father time by retaining virtually all of its original attributes, starting with the crystal-clear black & white pose that exhibits near-perfect centering and impeccable contrast. Other than a few extremely faint/negligible wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye, the glossy obverse side surface has retained a majority of its original luster, with the verso revealing a bold pencil "MICKEY MANTLE" notation as well as the significant PSA Type 1 serial number sticker.

It is common knowledge that Mantle could hit a baseball harder and further than anyone who came before or after this powerful coal miner, with Mickey still holding the record for the longest official home run via his 565-foot wallop at Washington's Griffith Stadium in 1953 off of southpaw Chuck Stobbs. Mantle would go on to win the Triple Crown in 1956, capture consecutive MVPs in 1956 and '57, and lead the Yankees to five World Championships throughout the 1950s. Indeed, this breathtaking Type 1 Image serves as a sheer reminder of how this Goliath-like phenom took the Big Apple by storm in his 1951 rookie campaign with Mantle's supernatural power ultimately etching his name in baseball immortality!
