(LOT 265)
1934 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig SGC 3.5 VG+

TRIPLE CROWN SEASON!!!... In 1934, the Goudey Gum Co. of Boston, Massachusetts released a legendary 96-card set that included multiple Lou Gehrig subjects. The more popular of the two is the #37 "Portrait" version, presented here in a stellar SGC 3.5 VG+ holder. Larrupin' Lou would justify the landmark Goudey Company's decision to include two subjects of his card in their 1934 set by claiming the AL's revered 1934 Triple Crown. Indeed, the '34 campaign would see Gehrig lead the AL in virtually every vital batting statistic including average (.363), Home Runs (49), RBIs (166), OBP (.465), SLG (.706), OPS (1.172) and Total Bases (409).

The Yankee Captain had now become the toast of the town due to Babe Ruth's career winding down in New York, finally appreciated for his world-class batting feats. This SGC 3.5 memento boasts a spine-tingling array of sparkling attributes including brilliant facial hues, a relatively clean yellow background, and surfaces eluding any obtrusive flaws. Accounting for the grade is even corner wear and a stray wrinkle, with the iconic Gehrig portrait pose stealing the show. Of utmost significance is the relatively well-centered image, with a majority of the Goudey #37 Gehrig's exhibiting skewed illustrations. Indeed, the laundry list of aforementioned superlatives as well as Gehrig's irrefutable standing as our National Pastime's greatest all-time first sacker merit it a final resting place in any prized Iron Horse collection!
