(LOT 1295)
c.1950s Original Photograph Jackie Robinson Don Wingfield Type 1 8" x 10" - PSA ENCAPSULATED

JACKIE PHOTO!!! All baseball enthusiasts know of Jackie Robinson's place in baseball lore as the breaker of the "color barrier" in 1947. But the career Dodger was much more than a figurehead; he was a ballplayer and a damn good one. In 1947, he won the National League Rookie of the Year award and two years later captured the NL MVP. Offered here is a c.1950s Don Wingfield Original Type 1 Photograph of Jackie Robinson measuring 8" x 10". Hailing from Virginia, Wingfield is one of the most popular photographers of the 1940s and '50s and contributor to The Sporting News. This photo shows the famed and intense Dodger posed with his bat over his shoulder ready for action. With a snow-white border and razor-sharp edges, this Type 1 image of Robinson is fantastic, showing only the lightest of surface abrasions on the face. On the back stand the "PHOTO BY DON WINGFIELD" stamping with Robinson's name penciled in above. This is an absolute marvel of Jackie virtually jumping out of the photo!
