(LOT 1275)
1936 Yankees Team Picture with Lou Gehrig & Rookie Joe DiMaggio PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Thorne Photo - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

The 1936 campaign would see the Yankees call up their star center fielder Joseph Paul DiMaggio, and he would quickly join Yankee captain Lou Gehrig in leading the Yankees to their first World Series appearance since 1932. Led by an astonishing 6 Cooperstown Inductees on the playing field (Gehrig, DiMaggio, Dickey, Ruffing, Lazzeri, and Gomez) as well as additional Hall of Famers Colonel Jacob Ruppert (owner), Joe McCarthy (manager) and Earl Combs (coach), the Yankees would win 102 games, literally coasting to the American League pennant. The Fall Classic would then see the "Bronx Bombers" capture the first of four consecutive championships, besting the New York Giants in six games. This spectacular 8" x 10" black & white 1936 team Thorne image was taken at Spring Training and portrays Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio standing next to each other in the second row, third and fourth from the right, respectively.

The remaining 37 players/coaches/executive personnel/trainer/etc. (39 in total) include all of the aforementioned Hall of Famers, with Ruppert and McCarthy standing "side by side" in the second row (seventh and eighth from the left, respectively). Surviving the past 86 years in outstanding condition, the crystal clear image emanates breathtaking aesthetics, revealing only a few stray diagonal creases, most notably near the upper left and lower right corners. The flipside includes the critical "THORNE PHOTO" credit stamp, the final "thumbs-up" for this museum worthy offering. This would mark the first of four consecutive seasons in which the Yankees would capture baseball's World Championship, led by the incomparable dynamic duo of the Iron Horse and Yankee Clipper. Indeed, this classic team image truly resides as an outstanding depiction of the seemingly "unbeatable" Yankee squad that reads like a "Who's Who" for our National Pastime's illustrious Hall of Fame!
