(LOT 214)
Extremely Rare 1933 Rittenhouse Candy E285 Babe Ruth "King of Clubs" (Blue Tint) PSA 4 VG-EX - "Pop 1"; Highest Graded PSA Example!

The "first" and "last" for any scenario carries significant weight, justifying why the 1933 Rittenhouse E285 candy "E" cards are regarded as noteworthy scarcities within the illustrious sports collectibles hobby. In 1933, the Philadelphia-based Rittenhouse Candy Company issued a 52-subject "playing card" set, with the cards measuring approximately 1-7/16" x 2-1/4." Extremely rare, the set included 46 individual players, of which six were issued with multiple cards. The different card colors include red, orange, blue and green, with a facial image situated within the playing card shape (diamond, club, spade or heart), as well as the player's name included near the lower edge. Of momentous note is that this issue is generally regarded as the "LAST" of the "E" card candy sets, with no further "E" card ACC designation assigned to subsequent sets. Presented here just happens to be one of the multi-issued six players as well as the set's most valuable subject, the incomparable Babe Ruth's blue tint "King of Clubs" revealing a PSA 4 VG-EX assessment.

The sole example at this eye pleasing mid-grade plateau, synonymous with Ruth's pinnacle baseball standing, it resides as the undisputed highest graded PSA specimen (of the mere 13 total PSA examples)! One of Ruth's rarest type cards, a PSA Authentic "King of Clubs" sold for over $4,000 in December 2021, and considering the stratospheric rise of Ruth's scarce type cards, we cannot even begin to estimate the true value of this "Pop 1" highest graded marvel. Revealing a blue tint Ruth facial pose within the centrally positioned "Clubs" image, this relatively clean 89-year-old offering has eluded any glaring flaws. General surface/corner wear account for the grade, and the verso reveals the letter "A" that was part of a prize redemption promotion to spell out "RITTENHOUSE CANDY CO.", whereby those respective cards would be exchanged for a toy premium. Of course, the critical aspect is the Rittenhouse E285 set sufficing as the final ACC designated "E" card issue, with this "Pop 1 - best of the rest" Babe Ruth offering strikingly similar to the Bambino's majestic stature as our National Pastime's greatest all-time player!
