(LOT 318)
1963 Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Blue Variation Ticket - Pete Rose's Major League Debut - PSA 4 VG-EX

HUSTLE'S FIRST GAME!!! The 1963 rookie class on Major League Baseball included future Hall of Famers Gaylord Perry & Willie Stargell as well as would-be All-Stars Mickey Lolich, Bill Freehan, Rusty Staub, Jim Wynn, Dave McNally and none other than Pete Rose. Excellent company! But Rose would outhit them all. Despite going hitless in his first game on April 8, 1963, Opening Day in Cincinnati, Pete Rose hit .273 with 170 hits, 101 runs, 41 RBI and 13 stolen bases to capture the National League Rookie of the Year honors. He would be the player that the Reds would build around in the years to come and he would ultimately lead them to World Series victories in 1975 and 1976. Offered here is a 1963 Blue Variation Full Ticket graded PSA 4 VG-EX of Pete Rose Major League Debut on April 8, 1963, which is the only PSA 4 example ever graded, with a single example grading higher. One of only two ever graded by PSA.. This debut ticket remains untorn and fully intact in bold bluish-purple color. Why it was not torn or perhaps used is unknown, but to our consignor's joy, PSA has graded this 4 VG-EX encasing it here. Though Rose would go hitless in his debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he did reach base and score beginning one of the most successful careers in MLB history. Pete Rose' status with Major League Baseball remains controversial, but NO ONE can argue with "Charlie Hustle's" intensity at the plate and on the basepaths. Whether a Hall of Famer or not, MLB's hit leader was one of the best and consistent anyone has ever seen. Own this beauty from Rose's first MLB regular season game!
