(LOT 1685)
Ted Williams Wins 1941 All-Star Game PSA Type 3 Associated Press Photo - Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

The 1941 campaign would see the immortal Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio chase history. The Splendid Splinter would ultimately post an unfathomable .406 batting average, the last MLB player to boast that feat, while the Yankee Clipper would compile his miraculous 56-game record hitting streak. Yet, somewhat overshadowed was the July 8th All-Star game played at Detroit's Briggs Stadium. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and two men on base, Ted Williams blasted a game-winning three run homer off of Claude Passeau to earn the Junior Circuit a heart-stopping 7-5 victory! One of the players scoring ahead of Williams was ironically Joe DiMaggio and this momentous PSA Type 3 photo portrays "Joltin' Joe" greeting "The Kid" as he is about to cross home plate. Measuring approximately 7" x 9", the classic image depicts outstanding clarity and contrast, as an exhilarated Williams and DiMaggio join right hands in celebration of this historic event. No obtrusive flaws are evident on either side, and the verso includes a critical caption detailing this most significant moment in baseball history!
