(LOT 221)
1933 Goudey #127 Signed Mel Ott (SGC AUTHENTIC) – Only 6 PSA Encapsulated Examples!

This signed 1933 Goudey #127 Mel Ott SGC Authentic offering seldom surfaces for the taking, with PSA's "Pop" chart listing only six examples. As autograph collectors surely realize, scripted Ott mementos are few and far between, largely in part due to Ott passing away on November 21, 1958 at the tender age of 49. Enthusiasts scramble to capture Ott scripted cuts, government postcards, photos, etc., with signed baseballs and cardboard issues his two rarest artifacts. This brilliant marvel reveals an extremely bold blue fountain pen "Mel Ott" script placed directly beneath his chin, with the autograph conservatively presenting itself in "8/9" fashion.

While corner wear and a series of light horizontal creases would keep the technical grade in the "2-Good" range, the overall aesthetics including a fine portrait image are far superior, highlighted by the coveted Ott autograph. Regrading Ott's immortal legacy, until Hank Aaron and Willie Mays came along, Ott was considered the Babe Ruth of the National League, with his 511-lifetime round trippers residing as the Senior Circuit's top figure until Mays became the first National Leaguer to eclipse his mark. While Ott will always be best remembered for his high right leg kick utilized as a timing mechanism for his unorthodox swing, there is nothing unconventional with regard to this extremely rare keepsake that merits serious consideration for even the most advanced autograph gathering!
