c.1920's Babe Ruth Type 1 Christy Walsh Syndicate Photo - Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - PSA Type I Encapsulation
This circa 1920's photo of the immortal Babe Ruth depicts the legendary slugger during the decade when he would establish himself as baseball's "home run king", belting an incredible 54, 59 and 60 round-trippers over three different seasons. Indeed, Babe Ruth officially opened the floodgates with regard to the "long-ball" replacing "small-ball", and his sheer dominance actually led him one season to out-homering every MLB team with the except two clubs! Donning his classic Yankee pinstripes, this Christy Walsh Syndicate 8" x 10" image portrays the Bambino in a spine-tingling stoic full body pose with the imposing illustration exhibiting incredible contrast and clarity.
While we have not been able to identify the gentleman wearing formal attire, it is truly Ruth that "steals the show", with the modest border chipping along the upper and lower edges, some diminutive stray wrinkles and a few small horizontal right border tears not negating the otherwise brilliant central image aesthetics. The verso includes several "CITIZENS SAVINGS ATHLETIC FOUNDATION" credit stampings, the final exclamation point for a photo taken at the height of Ruth's unparalleled diamond dominance!
