(LOT 650)
c. 1920's Babe Ruth Autographs Baseball's For Children's Hospital Benefit - Type I Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 10" – PSA Type I Encapsulation

This sensational offering measuring approximately 7" x 10" portrays Babe Ruth signing some 3,000 baseballs at his New York apartment for a children's hospital benefit. While Ruth unquestionably stands as our National Pastime's greatest all-time player, likewise, he arguably resides as the "king of the hill" with regards to the number of baseballs he signed throughout his storied career. Simply stated, the Bambino absolutely adored his admiring fans, especially the young ones who were totally captivated with this "larger than life" legend. It is said that Ruth virtually never denied an autograph seeker, and even his best friend, Hall of Famer Waite Hoyt clearly stated: "I must have seen "Babe" sign over 10,000 baseballs!"

The borderless 7" x 10" Underwood & Underwood photo depicts extraordinary contrast and clarity, no glaring surface flaws and fine edging, with the imposing image portraying the Bambino donning his classic robe and about to sign a hoard of baseballs supposedly totaling 3,000. The verso exhibits "THE CHRISTY WALSH SYNDICATE" credit stamp as well as a critical typed notation reading: "This photo taken on day Babe Ruth autographed 3,000 baseballs for a children's hospital benefit". A remarkable heirloom from Ruth's 1920's Yankee playing days, it serves as a sheer reminder of how this baseball immortal spent a countless number of hours to provide his enthralled fan base and underprivileged children with a Ruthian memento they could cherish for years to come!
