(LOT 81)
1954 Wilson Franks Advertising Sign with Uncut Complete Set

Single cards from the 1954 Wilson Franks series are extremely difficult to find, and this eye-catching advertising piece is even more scarce. To promote the company's product, and the collectibles inserted into each one-pound package, Wilson Wieners produced this display piece featuring an uncut sheet of the actual cards. The items are affixed to an advertising board topped with information about obtaining the singles. The 20-card uncut sheet comprises an entire set of these cherished items, including Ted Williams, Roy Campanella, Bob Feller, Red Schoendienst, Enos Slaughter and the other stars from the series' imposing roster. Of the few known advertising sheet examples, virtually all have some degree of fading.

This example follows suit, as its colors are noticeably lighter than is seen on conventionally distributed singles. General and understandable soiling and wear can be observed on the piece, most prominently as a 1/4" hole at the bottom right (between the Gil Hodges and Johnny Groth cards). Surface faults affect the card of Del Ennis, as well as the bottom-most row, and Groth's name has been neatly re-traced in red ink. Despite these flaws, the 10-1/2" x 22" sign displays very nicely (minimally Excellent presentation quality) and is a fabulous uncut showpiece. Professionally matted and framed to 17" x 28" overall dimensions. Keep in mind the sheet is adhered to a piece of cardboard that was then used in the frame.
