(LOT 90)
1965 Roger Maris Swinging Pose – United Press International Type I Original Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

One of baseball's most memorable moments will forever be on October 1, 1961 when Roger Maris blasted a Tracy Stallard fastball deep into the right-field seats at Yankee Stadium to eclipse Babe Ruth's exalted 60- homer mark. Indeed, in lieu of a steroid stricken game, Maris' amazing 61-home run season is still considered by many baseball purists as our National Pastime's "true" single season record, totally dismissing the numbers compiled by alleged steroid users Bonds, McGuire and Sosa. Regardless, Maris will always be considered one of the legendary all-time Yankees with this star right-fielder winning two consecutive MVP awards in 1960 and 1961.

This neat 8" x 10" photo portrays the renowned Yankee completing his mighty left-handed swing at Yankee Stadium as he fouls off a pitch on May 25, 1965. Maris had just returned to daily action from the disabled list, having been hurt since April 29th after making a diving catch in typical Maris fashion. Other than exhibiting a lower left corner chip, the photo has remained in excellent condition, emulating sensational black & white contrast and resolution. The verso includes both the critical United Press International credit stamp and caption that details the photo's event, the final superlative for a classic Roger Maris batting image! - PSA Type 1 Encapsulation
