(LOT 72)
1927 Murderer's Row Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth & Tony Lazzeri Original Type 1 Underwood & Underwood Photo - Measures Approx. 6-5/8" x 8-1/2" – PSA Type 1 LOA

Only a handful of photos could possibly better define the New York Yankee's 1927 dominance than this Type I original offering of the nucleus of the team's immortal "Murderer's Row" including from "left to right": Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Tony Lazzeri. These three iconic figures spearheaded the Murderer's Row unparalleled hitting attack (along with Bob Meusel and Earl Coombs), dominating pitchers at a monumental level that led to 2 consecutive World Championships in 1927 and 1928. Measuring approximately 6-5/8" x 8-1/2, the reverse side caption reveals that the image was taken directly after the Yankees clinched the 1927 American League pennant, while also outlining how the Yankees claimed first place from opening day straight thru the season.

The Yankees would eventually sweep the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1927 Fall Classic, placing an indelible claim as the arguable greatest team in baseball history. The virtually immaculate black & white central image reveals crystal clear clarity and stellar contrast, with Gehrig, Ruth and Lazzeri all portraying stoic poses while the Iron Horse holds his period lumber with his colossal right hand. The white borders are relatively clean, no glaring surface flaws are apparent and the verso includes the critical Underwood & Underwood credit stamps (as well as the aforementioned caption).

The only flaws worthy of mention are two modest corner chips at the upper and lower left corners, fortunately not impeding the world-class aesthetics of the brilliant image. Considered the finest team to ever take a baseball field, the 1927 Yankees will forever be noted for the remarkable performances of the "Sultan of Swat", "Iron Horse", and Tony Lazzeri, who wrecked havoc on opposing hurlers at an incomparable level! - Full PSA Type I LOA
