(LOT 73)
1936 Lou Gehrig Original Type 1 Associated Press Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 9" – PSA Type 1 LOA

One of the more eclectic Lou Gehrig photos you will ever come across, this 1936 Associated Press 7' x 9" offering portrays the Iron Horse in a classic batting swing pose from an "aerial-like" view. Gehrig's mighty swing eventually led to 493 life-time round trippers, with Lou once swatting four consecutive home runs in a single game against Connie Mack's Athletics at Shibe Park on June 3, 1932! We have seen many Gehrig batting swing images, but rarely do you come across an image reflecting his powerful swing from a seemingly air-borne perspective.

The illustration reveals the end of Gehrig's legendary swing, with his grimaced facial expression and twisted hips typical attributes of his intense batting form. No glaring blemishes are evident whatsoever, the well-centered black & white image reveals near-perfect contrast and resolution, and the borders are bright white. The verso depicts an extremely light caption that partly covers the significant Associated Press credit stamp, and miraculously, this offering's brilliant aesthetics have defied "Father Time", retaining a majority of its original pristine-like qualities. Considering it portrays the incomparable Iron Horse during one of his finest seasons when he would clout 49 homers, knock in 152 runs and compile a stellar .354 batting average via 205 hits, it merits serious accolades from any esteemed enthusiast! - Full PSA Type I LOA
