(LOT 90)
1936 Lou Gehrig PSA Type I Original Wide World Photo – Measures 7" x 9-1/4" - PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

This Wide World Photo of the immortal Lou Gehrig was taken at the Yankees St. Petersburg, Florida spring training facility in 1936. Measuring approximately 7" x 9-1/4", it depicts the "Iron Horse" in a classic fielding pose as the Yankee legend dons his period-style windbreaker jacket, exhibiting a dexterous stretch as he receives a throw to his 1st base position. Still in the prime of his incredible career, 1936 would see Gehrig and heralded rookie Joe DiMaggio lead the Yankees to their first World Championship in four years. Gehrig would absolutely crush opposing A.L. pitchers to the tune of 49 homers, 152 R.B.I.'s and a .354 batting average that would easily substantiate him capturing his second MVP award.

Exhibiting virtually pristine contrast and clarity, we cannot detect any major flaws on this aesthetically brilliant image that has miraculously retained a majority of its original technical attributes. The final exclamation point is the verso's critical WIDE WORLD PHOTOS credit stamp and 3/6/36 caption that pinpoints the hallowed image to spring training 1936. A superb representation of the incomparable "Iron Horse", it paints a vivid reminder of one of his finest seasons that would eventually result in another Gehrig MVP award and Yankees World Series title! - Full PSA Type I LOA
