(LOT 148)
1946 Jackie Robinson Type I Original Minor League William C. Greene Photo – "April 11, 1947 Exhibition Game vs. the N.Y. Yankees" - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" - Full PSA Type 1 LOA

Before Jackie Robinson's historical debut on April 15, 1947 whereby he was the first African-American to appear in a Major League game, he was "lighting up" the minor leagues with the Montreal Royals in 1946. Jackie led the league in three major categories including a sensational .349 batting average, .468 on-base percentage and 113 runs scored! It was that remarkable year that led Branch Rickey to place him on the Brooklyn Dodger's 1947 roster to officially break the Major League "color barrier" that had plagued baseball since its professional inception in 1869.

To commemorate that 1946 season, presented here is a breathtaking "half-body" portrait image of Jackie Robinson portraying his good-natured smile. Deemed a Type I original photo by PSA, it measures 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" and exhibits brilliant resolution and contrast, with no obtrusive flaws whatsoever. Issued by William C, Greene, it carries immense historical significance since it pre-dates Jackie's 1947 arrival to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Any 1946/1947 Jackie Robinson artifact rouses serious interest in the memorabilia market due to the unparalleled occurrence of Robinson "breaking the color barrier" in 1947; courtesy of the unbridled courage portrayed by both Robinson and Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey.

It is with no surprise that Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson's collectibles continue to skyrocket every day, especially in lieu of the historic "42" box office smash that opened the floodgates to an already lucrative Jackie Robinson collectibles market. Simply stated, Jackie Robinson has left an indelible mark not only on the game of baseball but more significantly, all of America. Therefore, it comes as little surprise that any of his early playing days collectibles such as this world-class keepsake, carry a momentous weight in our illustrious hobby! - Full PSA Type I LOA
