(LOT 114)
T206 Zach Wheat Sovereign 460/Factory 25 (PSA NM/MT 8) - The SOLE & HIGHEST GRADED Sovereign 460 Zach Wheat!

This remarkable PSA 8 Zach Wheat Sovereign 460 Cigarettes gem just happens to be the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED specimen on the illustrious PSA "Pop" charts; the finest of its kind! Zach Wheat is one of the more highly underrated Cooperstown inductees and was certainly destined for greatness after his first two plate appearances against the immortal Christy Mathewson resulted in a single and a double! History was in the making as Wheat continued on to a spectacular 19-year career of which 18 of those seasons were spent with the Brooklyn Dodgers with the last season as part of Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's. Wheat compiled a .317 batting average that included 2.884 hits, and an N.L. batting title in 1918, leading the Senior Circuit with a stellar .335 average.

His defensive skill sets as a superior outfielder were second to none, averaging approximately 15 assists a season and turning 54 double plays. He also led the Dodgers to two National league pennants in 1916 and 1920, although he never managed to win a World Series championship. Of greater significance than all of his playing field achievements was the excessive admiration bestowed upon him throughout his playing days, Brooklyn fans worshiped Zack Wheat for all he represented on and off a ball field.

This idolization was fully acknowledged when in 1927, the New York fans voted Zach Wheat New York's most popular athlete (besting the likes of the great Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig), resulting in a car being awarded to Wheat. Therefore, no baseball card could possibly be a greater testament to his beloved status than this "one of one" Wheat offering that reigns supreme via its "pack-fresh" aesthetics including a vibrant central image, snow white borders and near-perfect centering!
