(LOT 113)
T206 Ed Walsh – Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects/Factory 30 (PSA NM/MT 8) - " 1 of 1" & Highest Graded Sweet Cap!

The prestigious "Monster" T206 set distributed between 1909 and 1911 included a myriad of our National Pastime's dead-ball era Cooperstown inductees, many of which carry the classic portrait poses from renowned "turn of the century" photographer Carl Horner. One of those subjects belongs to the immortal "Big" Ed Walsh and it is his breathtaking tobacco gem that is presented here in a seldom surfacing PSA 8 holder. Consider that this currently resides as the ONLY listed PSA 8 "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes" example with NONE graded higher!

Famous for his notorious spitball, few people realize that "Big" Ed Walsh holds the all-time record for the lowest lifetime E.R.A. with a microscopic 1.84. If that doesn't impress you enough, in 1906 Walsh led his upstart Chicago White Sox to an unprecedented championship by winning an incredible 40 games in the regular season, before besting the Cubs an additional two times in the World Series. Those 40 victories still stand as the American League modern day record (only Chesbro's 41 wins for the N.Y. Highlanders exceeds that mark), and likewise, his representation on this astounding T206 artifact presents itself as a virtual unprecedented cardboard specimen.

The distinguished portrait pose depicts a brilliant array of facial hues and a robust midnight blue White Sox uniform as the primary headliners for this amazing central image. Fine centering that only reveals a trace of favoritism towards the upper edge, dazzling white borders and precision cut square corners complete a remarkable obverse side, with the bold red Sweet Caporal advertisement a superb flip side compliment. Each season, "Big" Ed Walsh toed the rubber for a seemingly countless number of innings until his arm finally gave way, and we highly advise you to emulate this Hall of Fame hurler's persistent work ethic by relentlessly pursuing this pristine-like heirloom!
