1956 Topps #50 Roberto Clemente "Gray Back" (PSA Mint 9)

MINT 9 ROBERTO!!!... Trying to find a virtually perfect PSA Mint 9 Roberto Clemente 1956 Topps card is synonymous to "eating soup with a fork", with both tasks virtually insurmountable. Supporting that notion is PSA's illustrious "pop" chart that indicates only six specimens have managed to achieve the 'Mint 9" grade with only a single example graded higher. Presented here is one of those handful of subjects that have been fortunate enough to achieve the near-perfect PSA assessment with this PSA 9 1956 Topps Clemente one of his finest preserved cardboard marvels.

While Clemente was certainly a sensational all-around player who accumulated exactly 3,000 lifetime hits, similar to Lou Gehrig, Clemente's legacy is more related to his sudden death when he was tragically killed after the 1972 season when his plane crashed carrying supplies to assist earthquake victims in Nicaragua. His list of accomplishments are absolutely remarkable including a .317 lifetime batting average, 3,000 career hits, the 1966 regular season MVP award, four batting titles, 12 consecutive gold glove awards, and if that isn't enough, in 1971 he won the World Series MVP when he virtually single handedly dominated the Baltimore Orioles in both the batter's box and right field.

The hallowed "Mint 9" grade is justified by Clemente's "spine-tingling" image resolution, pristine colored hues, blinding white borders, razor sharp corner tips and near-perfect centering. If you are seeking a nearly flawless cardboard representation of this baseball icon to augment your collection, then this magnificent 1956 Topps Clemente keepsake s the one for you.

It is not an overstatement to claim that legendary Hall of Fame right fielder Roberto Clemente is worshiped by the Hispanic baseball community at a similar level that Jackie Robinson was to all African Americans. In fact, both their iconic legacies extend far past their racial heritage since both players were, simply stated, two of the greatest performers Major League baseball has ever had the pleasure to witness!
