(LOT 707)
Ultra-Popular 1912 Ty Cobb "KING OF CLUBS" Sheet Music – Superb EX/MT+ Condition

Of all the seemingly countless number of baseball sheet music exemplars seen throughout the hobby, none could arguably compare to the prestige and popularity of the legendary 1912 Ty Cobb "KING OF CLUBS" issue. Measuring approximately 10.5" x 14", it was written by William Brede and published by Chicago's Will Rossiter. What makes this sheet music so special is the absolutely breathtaking oversized batting image of the immortal "Georgia Peach" as he fiercely grips his period style lumber while staring down another overmatched hurler. Presented here just happens to be one of the finest "King of Clubs" examples you will ever come across, a spectacular "EX/MT+" example that has eluded the typical wear associated with nearly all these copies.

The stoic image virtually extends from the top to lower edge and any avid baseball enthusiast can easily get goose pimples from staring at this classic illustration. From a cardboard perspective, Cobb's Cracker Jack resides as one of his top poses (along w/the Carl Horner portrait image), substantiating why the King of Clubs sheet music is likewise highly coveted by esteemed collectors. Issued in 1912, Cobb had just captured his 5th consecutive batting title via his amazing .420 average in 1911, on his way to an unfathomable 9 consecutive batting championships! We find it interesting that the cover mentions he is the American League Champion Batsman for 1909, 1910 and 1911, inexplicably omitting 1907 and 1908? Condition wise, you might never come across a finer copy with this miraculous offering side-stepping the common surface issues and chipping typically seen on this ultra-fragile issue.

The tranquil/powder blue background is nearly flawless, with the "KING OF CLUBS" caption, majestic Cobb batting pose and line drawing baseball equipment stealing the show! The 4-page inside sheet music reveals no glaring flaws, the spine is completely intact and the perimeter edging including all four corners are relatively sharp. Overall, we would conservatively grade this Cobb memento a solid "EX/MT", and you will be hard-pressed to find another exhibiting its outstanding attributes. Aesthetically magnificent, it would make a perfect addition to any esteemed Ty Cobb or sheet music gathering for it truly represents our National Pastime's dead-ball era "King of Clubs"!
