(LOT 705)
Super Scarce Complete 1962 Roger Maris Jell-O Box/Card

Virtually synonymous with the 1962 Post Cereal baseball card issue was the 1962 Jell-O baseball cards printed on the standard sized Jell-O boxes sold in grocery stores, supermarkets, etc. While the Jell-O Company originally intended to issue 200 subjects (similar to the Post Cereal checklist), inexplicably, subjects #29 (Brooks Robinson), #82 (Ted Kluszewski) and #176 (Smoky Burgess) were excluded. Also interesting was that the Jell-O cards were only sold in the Midwest, making them considerably scarcer than their Post Cereal peers. In lieu of Roger Maris recently breaking the "Bambino's" seemingly untouchable single season 60-homer record, one of the most sought after subjects from the 197-player Jell-O checklist is the legendary Roger Maris; with his COMPLETE JELL-O BOX presented here in miraculous near-pristine condition.

Incredibly, the box is completely intact, with advanced collectors well aware of the fact that virtually 99.9% of avid baseball fans cut the baseball card from the Jell-O box to place in their treasured baseball card compilations. How or why this box remained unscathed will forever be shrouded in mystery and a sheer joy to its next owner! Ultra-enticing is the Roger Maris card on the box's verso that reveals his record-breaking 61-home run mark that ultimately earned him his second consecutive MVP award. The front side portrays the standard Jell-O advertisement with the bold red lettering only exhibiting some modest surface wear along the bottom portion of letters "J", "E" and "L" as well as along the right edge of "O".

The yellow hued area includes the text: "Baseball Trading Card on back" with a black & white glove & baseball situated directly to the right of the caption. No obtrusive creasing, tears or surface damage is evident on either side, with the critical Maris baseball card portraying near-mint+ aesthetics. We simply cannot imagine another Maris Jell-O box possibly matching the jaw-dropping visual appeal of this "unique for the aesthetics" gem. An unfathomable keepsake from 1962, this miraculous box ironically included Apple flavored Jell-O, with the immortal Roger Maris establishing himself as the "Apple of nearly every baseball fan's eyes" after he accomplished the unthinkable by surpassing Babe Ruth's iconic 60 round-tripper mark!
