(LOT 174)
1930 Babe Ruth Herald & Examiner Newspaper Club Pin – One of The Finest in the Hobby!

One of the more obscure Babe Ruth pins/buttons issued during his playing days is the c.1930 Herald & Examiner pinback portraying a classic Ruth portrait pose. Measuring approximately 1" in diameter, seldom does this pin issue surface for the taking, justifying why this scarce celluloid offering would fit nicely in any esteemed "Sultan of Swat" or pinback collection. Elevating this offering to world-class stature is the extremely bold red obverse side background to Ruth's illustrious image; possibly placing this as the finest example in the hobby. Most of the Herald Examiner Ruth buttons in circulation depict a faded red surface, yet this magnificent keepsake has managed to retain nearly all of its original robust red luster.

Both the rim and obverse side surface have withstood the test of time, with both the white texted "HERALD AND EXAMINER" and red "BABE RUTH CLUB" captions bold and vivid. While a specific year cannot be pinpointed, to the best of our knowledge, it was most likely issued during the circa 1930 period along with some additional black & white premium sized Ruth batting photos also released by the Chicago based Herald Examiner. The verso has atypically eluded any serious rust with the critical pin completely intact. No doubt, it would be an excruciating search to say the least to find another Herald Examiner Ruth button portraying the world-class aesthetics emanating from this breathtaking heirloom!
