(LOT 1583)
c.1950s New York Yankees Mickey Mantle Swinging - Original Type 1 PSA Encapsulated Photo

The mighty swing of Mickey Mantle, from either side of the plate, became the model for every young boy or girl to replicate during the 1950s and '60s. The Mick is widely considered the greatest switch hitter in history and his consistency is well documented. Facing left-handed pitching, he batted .330 with 163 dingers as opposed to .282 with 373 against righties; however, he faced right-handed pitching 773 more than lefties. Presented here is a classic 8" x 10" posed photo of the Commerce Comet during his follow-through of his left-handed swing. The Topps Co., in 1957, used a similar pose for the highly coveted 1957 Topps #95 issue. This Culver Pictures, Inc. press photo displays Mickey, apparently shot at a practice facility as no stadium seating has good borders with even corner wear and minimal frontal abrasions. The reverse holds multiple stickers and stamps from the Culver Pictures, Inc. photography studio and the stamp "Mickey Mantle – Center Fielder – NEW YORK YANKEES" at the upper left corner.
