(LOT 1582)
Roy Campanella Swinging - Type 1 PSA Encapsulated United Press International Photo

For his career, Roy Campanella hit 260 home runs and drove in 1,019 RBIs over 18 professional seasons. A cornerstone of the Brooklyn Dodgers lineup for a decade, Campy was undoubtedly the best catcher in the National League, if not all of baseball, from 1948 to 1957. His three MVP awards were matched only by Yogi Berra, who backstopped Brooklyn's contemporary cross-town rival New York Yankees. Unfortunately for Campanella, Berra came out on top during the five World Series that played against one another with Brooklyn winning in 1955.

In 1957, as Dem Bums prepared to relocate to Los Angeles, Campanella was severely injured, breaking his neck, in a car accident due to icy conditions. Roy Campanella was paralyzed from the chest down for the remainder of this life. Offered here is a PSA encapsulated fantastic image of Campy's powerful swing as he bashes one of his home runs over the left field wall. Excellent borders, and mild pencil notation on the reverse. But this 8" x 10" original Type 1 photograph is striking, to say the least, displaying one of Brooklyn's greatest players in franchise history.
