1962 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT
AL MVP AGAIN!!! The 1961 season nearly earned Mickey Mantle his third American League MVP Award, if not for his comrade Roger Maris' surpassing the 34-year-old home run record of the legendary Babe Ruth. The M&M Boys went back and forth for nearly the entire year matching homer for homer until The Mick fell off due to injury, something that plagued his entire career. Maris hit his 61st HR in game 163, the final of the seasons, and Mantle maxed out with his last, and 54th, on September 23. Presented here is the 1962 Topps #200 issue of Mickey Mantle graded 8 NM-MT by PSA. This card featured the MVP runner-up displaying alarming color and clarity. His stoic portrait image depicts breathtaking facial tints, with the timeless pose well projected against the immaculate powder blue sky setting. Most significantly, the border has retained virtually all of the original wood-grained hue with only the slightest touch evident at the upper left corner tip. Right angled corners, immaculate surfaces, and clean wood-grain borders complete this time defying marvel that rarely surfaces with the PSA 8 assessment! Mickey Mantle did win his third AL MVP in 1962, collecting his one and only Gold Glove that season as well.
