1922 W575-2 Ty Cobb Hand-Cut PSA 5 EX
RARE COBB!!! The 1922 campaign was Ty Cobb's last batting .400 or better as he posted a .401 average, driving in 99 runs. The last time? It is amazing that it needs distinction from the previous two seasons in 1911 and 1912 when he hit .419 & .409, respectively. But, even at 35, Cobb was still one of the most bankable subjects for companies and manufacturers, behind only Babe Ruth. Produced by Detroit's Kromo Gravue Photo Company, the 1922 W575-2 set featured 40 blank-backed black-and-white issues, including Cobb and Ruth, and has been dubbed the "Autograph on Shoulder" set, based on the facsimile signatures on each player's image.

Offered here is an anchor issue of Ty Cobb, bat in hand, graded PSA 5 EX. Of the only 26 total Ty Cobb cards graded by PSA, this is the highest graded in the hobby with only a single equal. Offering thick white borders with even wear overall at the edging and corners, this Cobb card is clean on both sides and displays very white, dissimilar to many of the previously offered examples featuring Ruth, or others, which show signs of light fading. This Cobb is radiant! The 1922 W575-2 Strip cards are super-rare issues and do not surface often for auction, so this anchor example of the great Ty Cobb in the highest graded holder should catch your eye.
