Jimmie Foxx Signed June 13, 1939 Baseball Centennial First Day Cover PSA/DNA 9 MINT
DOUBLE X AUTO!!!... Presented here is a highly coveted June 13, 1939 Baseball Centennial First Day Cover that has been boldly signed "Jimmie Foxx" in black fountain pen and rightfully awarded a PSA/DNA 9 MINT assessment. One of the most notable days in our National Pastime's revered history is when Cooperstown first opened its doors to the public on June 12, 1939 to commemorate not only baseball's 100-year centennial but also to honor the 26 HOF inductees and five original HOFers. A number of first-day mailing envelopes for the inductees were issued for that momentous event including the postal date, "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" postal stamps, and in this case, a scarce black and white batting image of the iconic Lou Gehrig. This offering also includes a classic image of Abner Doubleday (at that time perceived to be baseball's founding father), as well as the critical caption: "Commemorating 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GAME OF BASEBALL." No notable flaws are evident on the significant obverse side, and although not one of the original 1939 inductees (Foxx retired in 1945), his prized autograph on this historical artifact turns back the clock to an era when The Beast was terrorizing opposing pitchers to the tune of a .325 lifetime batting average and 534 dingers!
