(LOT 1139)
1926-1929 Exhibits Lou Gehrig Batting - Plain Background Postcard Back PSA Authentic

GEHRIG!!! Numerous exhibit postcards were issued between 1926 and 1929, depicting different colored tints, including black & white, blue, brown/sepia-toned, yellow, green, red and purple. As with virtually all of the 1920s and '30s sets, one of the set's most significant subjects was Lou Gehrig. Originally issued during Gehrig's second full season and the first campaign that he would top the .300 batting average and 100 RBI marks. Presented is a PSA Authentic Plain Background example of this Gehrig keepsake in a rich apricot color! Adorning his classic Yankee pinstripes, Gehrig's batting image reveals a muted orange hued surface originally captured by the famed photographer Charles M. Conlon, with the image later used for Gehrig's legendary 1933 Goudey subject. A good border, displaying moderate edge and corner wear with a corner crease at bottom right. The central image is strong, showing two minor surface abrasions, but nothing detracts from the eye-catching allure here.
