(LOT 1140)
1927 Exhibits Lou Gehrig PSA 3.5 VG+ - POP 1!

1927 IRON HORSE!!! One of the rather obscure 1920s Gehrig cards, this particular PSA 3.5 POP 1 1927 Exhibit (green tint) was issued the year that the Iron Horse and Bambino would terrorize opposing pitchers to the tune of 107 homers, leading the Yankees to a world championship! While it was Ruth who reached the magical 60 home run mark, Gehrig's 47 round-trippers, league-leading 173 RBIs and outstanding .373 batting average were more than enough firepower to convince the baseball writers to select him as the AL's MVP. Inexplicably omitted from the 1927 E126 American Caramel and E210 York Caramel Type 1 sets, the 1927 Gehrig Exhibit stands as one of his few subjects issued during the iconic '27 campaign (save a handful of manually cut strips and Gehrig's Type 2 York Caramel). Most significantly, it boasts the classic 1925 Gehrig rookie batting pose originally taken during the 1924 season. The crystal-clear Gehrig batting pose is magnificent, with no notable creasing evident on either side. Surface flaws include standard corner and edge wear as well as an extremely faint spoiling spot directly above Gehrig's cap. A relatively clean verso exhibits some negligible toning, making this seldom-surfacing keepsake of the immortal Yankees captain a bona fide cardboard treasure!
