(LOT 1086)
1910 Nadja E104-1 Eddie Plank Blank Back SGC 3 VG - POP 2; Only 2 SGC Examples Graded Higher!

RARE T206 PLANK POSE!!! The ever-elusive 1910 Nadja E104-1 "candy treats" are among the rarest of all "E" cards, issued in 1910 and including 18 Athletics players to commemorate Philadelphia's 1910 World Championship. The most coveted player is the iconic HOF southpaw pitcher Eddie Plank, presented here in a splendid SGC 3 holder. One of only two SGC examples at this eye-pleasing plateau, a meager two SGC specimens have been graded higher (PSA only lists a single PSA 3.5 copy at a higher assessment). The utmost popularity of Eddie Plank's iconic T206 Carl Horner portrait image stands right alongside the T206 Honus Wagner illustration as one of the hobby's most celebrated poses. Interestingly enough, while there are well over 100 T206 Plank's listed on the combined SGC and PSA pop charts to choose from, only 20 Nadja E104-1 copies (14 SGC; 6 PSA) are available for the taking. This meager count of E104-1 Planks represents a mere fraction of the existing T206 Eddie Planks, and it's only a matter of time before hobbyists catch on and aggressively pursue Plank's T206 candy card brethren. One of baseball's greatest all-time southpaws, via his 326 wins, Plank's classic Carl Horner representation has only been compromised by a horizontal crease above his right ear and a modest factory-issued butterfly cut of the upper edge. A bold blue setting and super clarity project the immortal pose to a stratospheric level, with the right to own any copy and strong VG assessment placing this rarity as one of Plank's most significant cardboard marvels!
