(LOT 1085)
1910 Novelty Cutlery Postcard Eddie Plank PSA 6 EX-MT – POP 1; Highest PSA-Graded Example!

BEST OF THE REST PLANK!!! The 1910 campaign would see HOF southpaw Eddie Plank ably assist the Athletics in capturing their inaugural World Championship, with the crafty lefty winning 16 games to the tune of a 2.01 ERA. That would also be the season the Canton, Ohio based Novelty Cutlery Knife Co. would issue their ultra-popular 26-subject postcard set, with this finest graded PSA 6 Eddie Plank offering the sole example sitting atop the illustrious PSA Pop Chart! PSA has only graded six of these super obscure postcards, with SGC only encapsulating a meager five examples. Synonymous with Plank's legendary hobby stature via his iconic T206 subject is this unfathomable offering that has stubbornly defied time. A classic hands-over-head pitching pose reveals Gettysburg Eddie about to unleash another one of his tantalizing pitches that ultimately led to 326 lifetime wins. As the same image affixed to his PC796 subject, the relatively clean surface has eluded any notable flaws, with only some modest corner and edge wear preventing a higher assessment. The undisputed PSA best of the best, it is immensely rarer than Plank's T206 issue, turning back the clock to an era when he overmatched hitters at an alarming pace!
