(LOT 1076)
1907 Raymond Kahn Postcard Nap Lajoie SGC 2 GOOD – POP 1; Highest Graded Example on the Combined SGC & PSA Pop Charts!

NAP SCARCITY!!! A Nap Lajoie rarity, this SGC 2 GOOD 1907 Raymond Kahn postcard stands alone at the top of the combined SGC and PSA census reports as the finest of its kind! Issued in Cleveland, OH., this scarce turn of the century set included only Cleveland-based players (including a team image), with the immortal player/manager Lajoie being the most sought-after subject. A POP 1 heirloom, the breathtaking portrait pose of the legendary Cooperstown inductee is only slightly compromised by even corner wear and some faint wrinkles. The verso is postmarked SEP 3 1907, and includes a pencil notation addressed to "Mr. Raymond Rudy", as well as a diminutive surface abrasion near the postal stamp. One of Nap Lajoie's most elusive keepsakes, it was issued during the era when this second-sacker's batting exploits, including baseball's highest modern-day single-season average (.426), set him on his way to being one of the earliest 1939 HOF inductees!
