1904 W600 Sporting Life Cabinets Type 4 Luther "Dummy" Taylor SGC 4.5 VG-EX+ – POP 1; The Highest Graded Type 4 Example on Any Professional Grading Pop Chart!

DUMMY TAYLOR RARITY!!! One of the most elusive W600 Sporting Life Cabinets is this outstanding SGC 4.5 VG-EX+ 1905 Type 4 Mount Cabinet, the SOLE SGC example and the highest graded Type 4 specimen on the combined SGC and PSA census reports! The renowned turn of the century W600 Sporting Life Cabinet prototypes were issued from 1902 through 1911 by the Sporting Life weekly newspaper, measuring approximately 5" x 7-1/2". These imposing premiums were originally issued in transparent/glassine envelopes for three 2-cent stamps and a coupon from the Sporting Life periodical. Eventually, the redemption methodology was revised to simply requesting a particular player for 10 cents apiece or 12 for a dollar.

The earliest released cabinets depicted players with Carl Horner's renowned portrait images in formal attire, with later issued subjects portrayed in their uniforms. W600 Sporting Life cabinets were released in Type 1, 2, 3, and 4 Mount formats, with the four different types distinguished by their different lower border designs. Originally issued in 1904, this cabinet represents one of baseball's greatest all-time deaf players, with Luther "Dummy" Taylor pitching nine stellar seasons for McGraw's Giants. The classic portrait in uniform image originally struck by Carl Horner is stupendous, exhibiting the finest possible clarity and contrast. Only even corner wear and a diminutive soiling spot on the lower border prevent a higher grade, with this extremely rare, highest graded POP 1 W600 arguably sufficing as Dummy Taylor's finest cardboard keepsakes!
