(LOT 1048)
1904 U.S. Souvenir Real-Photo N.Y. Giants Team Composite PC SGC 1 POOR

1904 GIANTS!!! Extremely rare, this SGC 1 PR 1904 U.S. Souvenir Real-Photo Postcard of the NY Giants was issued to commemorate their 1904 NL Championship. One of only seven SGC encapsulated copies (PSA has graded none), it includes 16 portrait busts originally taken by iconic photographer Carl Horner. Notable subjects include McGraw (center image in formal attire); Bresnahan (underneath McGraw, left); McGinnity (underneath McGraw, right); and Dummy Taylor (upper left corner). Horner's scripted photo credit appears along the lower edge. The flipside includes a September 5, 1905 postmark, while the obverse side's right region reveals the following penned note: "Joe – They look good to me." Interestingly enough, due to his ongoing feud with AL President Ban Johnson, John McGraw spitefully refused to play the Boston Pilgrims in the 1904 World Series, denying the country the chance to see a classic Christy Mathewson vs. Cy Young pitching matchup.
