1907 Dietsche Postcards Ty Cobb Batting Rookie SGC 3 VG

TYRUS ROOKIE!!! Ty Cobb's inaugural solo appearance on an MLB baseball card is 1907, a year when various postcards were distributed with his hallowed image. Cobb broke into the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers in 1905, playing in a mere 41 games while hitting a paltry .240. Quickly, Cobb bounced back in 1906 to bat an impressive .316, the first of an unfathomable 23 consecutive years of exceeding the exalted .300 benchmark. Throughout his career, he led the AL a record 12 years in batting average, including an incredible nine consecutive seasons from 1907 through 1915. In 1907, he stroked 212 hits to the tune of a stellar .350 batting average, capturing his inaugural batting championship.

Due to his newly found star status, manufacturers began utilizing his image on various postcards throughout the 1907 season. Some of these postcards include the A.C. Dietsche, Wolverine News, H.M. Taylor, and ultra-rare Steel Tubes, with all of these issues staking claim as Cobb's true rookie cards (as well as his W600 cabinet). The Dietsche postcards were distributed in 1907 by the A.C. Dietsche Company of Detroit, Michigan, with the set's key subjects being the two iconic Georgia Peach batting and fielding subjects (the verso's "Copyright 1907" text substantiates the year). This eye-pleasing SGC 3 VG offering boasts a Cobb batting image with outstanding clarity and contrast. Imperfections include corner wear, typical surface snow, a few stray wrinkles, and a modest surface abrasion at the upper left corner. The final reference is an unmarked verso including some scattered areas of soiling/toning, with this bona fide Georgia Peach rookie portraying fine overall aesthetics!
